CHINECHEREM THE GIRLTHAT GETS NINE A1's IN HER WEAC EXAMS WAS AWARDED SCHOLARSHIP BY THE GOVERNOR

Cynthia Chinecherem Ali, who made A1 in all nine subjects she sat for in the 2017 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Examination, has been awarded scholarship by the government of Enugu State. The scholarship is to cover up to first degree level in any Nigerian University. The Commissioner for Education, Professor Uchenna Eze, made the announcement when Miss Ali was presented to members of the State Executive Council for commendation. The Professor further stated that government had also resolved to present the student with a Certificate of Honour in further recognition of her outstanding academic performance. He said the scholar had made Enugu proud and deserved the recognition and support of the State, adding that the recognition should act as motivation to others to work towards excellence in their academic endeavors so as to bring pride to their families and State. Describing the student as a ‘role model’, Professor Eze, charged 18-year-old Cynthia to remain committed to the pursuit of excellence. In her response, Miss Ali who was escorted to the hallowed chambers by her parents and management of her school, dedicated the success to God while thanking Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the scholarship and the rare honour of appearing before the State Executive Council. She described Governor Ugwuanyi as a leader with a good heart whose passion for education is remarkable, and promised to continue to make Enugu State proud. Also, the Proprietor of the school, Dr. Mrs. Vicky Onu commended the Governor and his cabinet for the honour and support extended to her student to advance her education, pointing out that Cynthia is a product of discipline, diligence, hard work and the fear of God. She expressed the belief that the gesture would encourage other students to work hard to achieve their aims in life. Miss Ali is from Umuagama, Enugu Ezike in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of the State. The best graduating Student of Shalom Academy Nsukka, she is reported to have been consistent with her outstanding position from JSS1 to SSS3 to earn her the enviable status of student with the best WAEC results in the State and Nigeria as a whole. She had twice been honoured with the Certificate of Merit by the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), Enugu State Chapter (2016 and 2017). Miss Ali has applied to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN)<
