Africa CDC reports 618 new cases, 45 deaths, 65 recoveries over past 24 hours Addis Getachew | 07.04.2020 Africa: COVID-19 cases top 10,000, death toll nears 500 The number of coronavirus cases in Africa rose above 10,000 as the death toll moved closer to 500 on Tuesday. According to the Africa Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (Africa CDC), a total of 10,075 COVID-19 cases have now been reported in 52 of the continent’s 54 countries. The figure marked a rise of 618 cases since Monday, while 45 more deaths brought Africa’s death toll to 487. The number of recoveries rose to 913 after 65 more patients were discharged from hospitals in different countries. As per the Africa CDC data, the worst-hit countries on the continent are South Africa with 1,686 cases and 12 deaths, Algeria with 1,423 cases and 173 deaths, Egypt with 1,322 cases and 85 fatalities, and Morocco with 1,120 cases and 80 deaths. Student dormitories in Turkey have housed over 27,500 people so far, says youth and sports minister Hilmi Sever and Serdal Kalayci | 07.04.2020 Over 18,000 under quarantine in Turkey amid COVID-19 ISTANBUL A total of 18,156 people are currently under quarantine in Turkey as part of measures to stem the novel coronavirus, country’s youth and sports minister said on Tuesday. They are quarantined at 84 student dormitories located in 57 provinces, said Mehmet Kasapoglu who oversees student dormitories in the country. A total of 3,120 medical staff are also quarantined at 73 dormitories in 47 provinces, Kasapoglu added. To date, he added, 27,595 people have been quarantined at dormitories belonging to the ministry. Turkey has so far reported 30,217 COVID-19 cases and the death toll stands at 649. Since originating in Wuhan, China last December, the novel coronavirus has spread to at least 184 countries and regions, according to figures compiled by Johns Hopkins University. earl

LATEST ON CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK COVID-19: China reports 30 new cases, 3 deaths Tally of cases in China tops 81,000, death toll crosses 3,300 China on Sunday claimed 25 of the 30 news coronavirus cases it confirmed were imported.
